The Third Major Protein Degraded during Germination of Bacillus Megaterium

The complete covalent structure of Protein B, the third major protein degraded during germination of Bcrcillus megaterium spores, has been determined. The intact protein was cleaved with the specific B. megaterium spore protease into three peptides, residues 1 to 31 (B-m), 32 to 66 (B-I), and 67 to 96 (B-II). Cleavage of the intact protein with trypsin allowed isolation of the peptide encompass...

Antimicrobial actions of hexachlorophene: inhibition of respiration in Bacillus megaterium.

Hexachlorophene (HCP) inhibits both endogenous and exogenous respiration (oxygen uptake) in Bacillus megaterium, without sparing by any of several substrates. The inhibition is maximal when the cells are treated with 8 mug of HCP per mg of cells (dry weight), which corresponds to the minimal lethal dose. Levels as low as 2 mug/mg are inhibitory but not lethal. HCP also inhibits the respiration ...

Pharmacokinetics of ceftriaxione, a third-generation cephalosporin, in pediatric patients.

We monitored the serum concentration of ceftriaxone (CTRX) in order to clarify its pharmacokinetics in pediatric patients. Subjects were 21 patients undergoing CTRX therapy (50 mg/kg/d) for pneumonia from January to September 2007. To determine the serum concentration of CTRX and to obtain other laboratory data, blood samples were drawn just before and after drug administration. To clarify the ...

Third-Generation Cephalosporin–Resistant Vibrio cholerae, India

Vibrio cholerae resistance to third-generation cephalosporins is rarely reported. We detected a strain that was negative for extended-spectrum β-lactamase and positive for the AmpC disk test, modified Hodge test, and EDTA disk synergy test and harbored the blaDHA-1 and blaNDM-1 genes. The antimicrobial drug susceptibility profile of V. cholerae should be monitored.
